CHINESE CULTURAL AND
OPERA HERITAGE MUSEUM:
With the location of Lower Barracks, it taps on main circulation of Eu Tong Sen Road to increase public exposure to Chinese Opera and Pearl’s hill. It has the opportunity of becoming a venue that draws and retains public interaction on Chinese Opera. Active frontage ensures interactivity and encourages cross-movement between public into building. Revitalizing Pearl’s hill through pedestrian connector and viewing deck was proposed too.

My concept is layers. It is derived from the multiple makeup, headgears and accessories the performers wear. Secondly, it is also derived from the different interpretive movements & gestures in Chinese opera. The layered relationship between the performers’ movements and the stage is very important. So the Key idea is capturing the movement and relationship between object.Layers of Movement are the essence of Chinese opera. Physical movement of visitors, performers, even air or sound elements are part of the layers.
Different material treatment for internal partition walls can varies from opaque to translucent to create movement flows that cannot be seen exactly. The absence of movement with presence of movement will further accentuate the experience of movements within and spatially it feels like something is going. Extension building itself will be simple so attention will not be taken from movements inside.
